Businesses partner with TOP to protect the orangutans and their natural habitat, whilst helping to make positive changes to the world. It’s something you, your company and employees can all share in. Our business partners often work with us as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility program, which can be tailored around your individual organisation’s requirements.
Why Protect Endangered Species?
A threat to orangutans is really a threat to us all. Their native home in the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra may seem far away but its preservation is critical in maintaining a fundamental balance of eco-systems that affect the world.
Carbon emissions from the wholesale destruction of the forest contribute to global warming. The remaining forest is threatened with drought or fire as a result of the changing ecosystem and so the danger is exacerbated.
The challenge to save orangutans (who share 97% of our DNA) provides a unique opportunity to promote and communicate critically important conservation and environmental issues.
What Can Your Organisation Do?
Become an Orangutan Project Partner. Your contribution will make a difference. You can choose the level of sponsorship that suits your budget and know that you are supporting important work including:
- Caring for orphan orangutans through our adoption program
- Rehabilitating and releasing orangutans into safe rainforest areas
- Conserving and restoring areas of high conservation importance
- Protecting the forest from illegal land clearing through our Safeguard program
- Funding research into effective management strategies for orangutans in the wild
Orangutan Friendly Accreditation for Partners
The Orangutan Project applauds companies that sell or manufacture products that do not contain palm oil. Organisations that choose to not use palm oil as an ingredient in their products not only safeguard orangutan and endangered species' habitat, but offer a clear advantage over competitor products for today's informed consumers.
More information on the threat of palm oil to endangered species can be found here.
The Orangutan Project offers Orangutan Friendly Product labelling for organisations who are seeking to promote the fact that its products are palm oil free. This accreditation from The Orangutan Project demonstrates to consumers that labelled products do not harm orangutans or contribute to the destruction of the species' habitat.
To gain 'Orangutan Friendly Product' endorsed by The Orangutan Project, an organisation
must certify that it uses no palm oil in any of its products that comes from the islands of Borneo or Sumatra. We acknowledge that palm oil plantations set up on any land will have likely displaced natural habitat, however this is true of all permanent forms of agriculture.
The Orangutan Project Business Partnership Program
What You Receive in Return
Our business partners receive a range of benefits plus gifts and certificates that can be distributed amongst staff to make them aware of the company’s contribution. As you know, workplace involvement in socially responsible programs like TOP can be a great morale booster for staff, especially if they can participate too. We’d be happy to make suggestions on how your staff can raise funds and contribute in their own right, or even visit some of the TOP projects in Borneo or Sumatra via our tour partner programs.
